Pokémon GO went back to the top of the App Store charts on December 21 with the introduction of new augmented reality features, built on Apple’s ARKit framework for more detailed and realistic gameplay.Since the release of Pokemon GO last 2016, it already made lots of achievements. During their first year, Niantic and Pokemon GO has been announced as the best mobile game of the year, most engaging app, and much more. These achievements drove the Niantic team to keep improving the game by giving new in-game features and events.
During the 3rd quarter of 2017, Pokemon GO released a new batch of Pokemon in the game which is the Generation 3 Pokemon and the Legendary Pokemon. With the release of these new Pokemon, Niantic also released numbers of events to keep players engaged with the game.
Pokemon GO Top Grossing App
These engagements and activities are quite successful that make Pokemon GO reached another milestone. As announced by Apple, Niantic’s Pokemon GO is the #1 top grossing app on the App Store during the 2017 holiday season.

Usually, Apple gives the spotlight to partners especially when they’re introducing brand new technology such as ARKit. Apple’s Newsroom event posted and featured a video of the new AR+ mode of Pokemon GO showing the new in-game features.
Pokemon GO did not manage to hit the #1 spot as the top grossing app in Google Play in the United States. However, with the effort of Niantic team for the introduction of the Generation 3 Pokemon and the release of the new Legendary Pokemon, Pokemon GO managed to climb from #17 to #2 spot as the top grossing app of 2017.
