Will Wright, the game designer of the popular game The Sims and SimCity has announced that he’s working on a new mobile game called Proxi.
Wright has revealed that he is working with Gallium Artist to create the new mobile game using the Unity engine, and similar to his previous works, Proxi is a simulation game.
Proxi is quite different from his previous Sims game, however, in this game, the player will also start in a completely blank environment and where he must build it using their pre-existing memories.
The player will be able to select any kind of memory category that they want – for example, home or family adventures – and use the available 3D models to build their world. Over time players will have an island of connected memories that have been created into the 3D worlds.
During the reveal, Wright said that Proxi is a game of self-discovery where players are given a chance to uncover their inner self and bring it to the world. Though details that have been revealed are limited, Wright has announced a Proxi Art Challenge, where the artists can submit their own created world and get a chance to get a position as a 3D artist for Proxi.
This is a somewhat unexpected announcement from Wright since he’s been rather quiet in the industry of late. His last full game, Spore, was released almost 10 years ago – it was named one of the best inventions of 2008 by Time magazine – and though he attempted to create a startup called Syntertainment in 2013, it never really took off.
However, Wright is a renowned game designer and any title he’s working on is worth keeping an eye on, especially if you’re a fan of simulation games.
