Twitch.TV Is Now Banned In China Following The Download Surge

Twitch users from China will no longer have the access to one of the most popular gaming streaming website.

It seems that the gaming streaming platform Twitch.TV is now inaccessible throughout China. It was first removed from the local App Store following the massive download increase of the app in the mainland China. Abacus News suggests that this could be one way for the Chinese Government to slowly stop the gaming addiction of their community.

This is not the first time for China to ban an international website. As we all know, popular sites like Facebook, Reddit, and YouTube are also inaccessible in the country. However, it was the first time for the Chinese community to be part of an international event, where the Chinese team managed to grab the trophy for the League of Legends and Arena of Valor tournament.

Chinese gaming community, however, has another option to access Twitch by using VPN services that will allow them to bypass any country restriction to access a website. It seems like it’s not illegal to use such services in China. In fact, even businesses are allowed to use VPN services if they managed to get a permission from the Chinese Government.

Following this incident report, Twitch has acknowledged it but declined to give any statement about the issue.

Do you think Twitch will make a way to restore the connection between their website and the Chinese fans? Feel free to tell us what you think in the comments below.
