Hammerwatch II – A Primer on Herian Enchanting Guide and Tips

A crash course to enchanting for the Apprentice Herian Adventurer and a quick reference for the Master Adventurer. This guide focuses on the bonuses provided by components and not on random enchantments.
This is the first and final version of this guide.

The Basics

When and Where Can I Enchant?

The Royal City of Aventurine, south of the main square. just northeast of the lake. On the minimap, he appears as an axe. He’s sharing a home with a trader, who is depicted as a pile of coins on the minimap.

You have unlimited access to the enchanter after you’re able to leave Hammer Island (the starting area).

What Can I Enchant?

You can enchant anything that you can equip:

  • Mainhand Weapons – more damage and penetration
  • Head armor – Spell bonuses and new skills
  • Chest armor – Physical Defense
  • Hands armor – Attack bonuses
  • Feet armor – Movement bonuses
  • Accessories – Resistance
  • Offhand Weapons – technically enchantable, but not with components. More below

Much of the equipment you find will already be enchanted (uncommon, rare, epic, and unique equipment). You’ll only be able to apply enchantments to common (white) and uncommon equipment (green gear).

How Do I Enchant?

Enchanting requires 3 or 4 things:

  1. Equipment – Straight forward, this is the whole reason we’re here. You’ll find it on enemies, in shops, or you’ll craft it yourself with help from the various tradespeople of Aventurine.
  2. Gold – Straight forward as well; you’ll find this a lot more commonly than equipment dropped from enemies, but the bulk with be from quests and commerce.
  3. Elven Runes – Elven Runes come in two forms: Lesser and Greater. Most commonly, these are found by disenchanting equipment. Lesser Runes from uncommon (green) equipment and Greater Elvn Runes from rare (blue) equipment. Both types of runes are also occasionally found as enemy drops and in secret rooms. Disenchanting equipment destroys the equipment in the process. You’ll need Lesser Runes to enchant common (white) equipment to craft uncommon equipment, and you’ll need Greater Runes to enchant uncommon equipment to craft rare equipment.
  4. Components (optional) – There are many different kinds of enchanting components; most are enemy drops. These can be used to control the outcome of enchanting so you can customize you equipment for a specific goal (for example, to improve armor or add health regen).

Things to Keep in Mind

This guide focuses on the enchantments you can control, but that doesn’t mean that’s all there are. You’ll find many uncommon and rare items with enchantments that you cannot choose to apply.

For Example:

  • Increased Damage to Humans/Beasts/Undead/etc.
  • Increased Attack/SpellSpeed
  • Increased Attack Crit Chance/Damage

When you’re in the Enchantment interface, don’t select a component. As long as you have the gold and runes, you can apply a RANDOM enchantment to your item.

If you accidentally select a component and want to remove it without closing and reopening the interface, right-click the component (or equipment for that matter) to remove it from the slot.

Off Hand Equipment (Shields, Orbs, Throwing Knives, Bows, and Tomes) can be enchanted but not with components. This means that all Off Hand Equipment enchants are random.

Personally, I feel the offhand equipment would’ve been a better choice, mechanically, to receive bonuses to skills instead of head equipment.
