Assaulting the Church is one of the most difficult situations in Heroes & Generals. In this guide, I will outline several strategies to potentially make taking this formidable objective a bit easier.
Getting Into Position
Starting off, the first thing to know about the Church is that staying on the bottom floor when attacking is certain death, aside from a single spot that you can utilize once you get enough people inside to initially clear the point. The proper place to be when attacking is the rafters and the easiest way to get there is to do your prep work, which begins outside the objective.
Assaulting from O1 or B4 are nearly identical, and obviously, A line is the easiest. To begin, 1 or 2 players need to bring an automatic weapon and go to Spawncamp Shack, which I will put a picture of below.
Once there, the player or players in question will need to head to the roof and get on the side facing towards Spiral. The reason for this is to delay or eliminate enemies before they can reach Spiral, while the rest of the strike force heads up both towers at the front of the Church and makes their way into the rafters from either the main steeple or by jumping into the rafters from the 2nd floor of the towers.
Keep in mind to stay on the Church side of the roof, as tanks and snipers can fire from spawn protection, and grenades and HE shells will splash the entire inside of Spawncamp Shack’s roof. I will post a picture of the sightline from the top of Spawncamp Shack below.
Finally, if attacking from A line, a good sniper can assist the team in first getting to Spawncamp Shack by positioning themselves here. I recommend a sniper rather than an LMG because this position is very exposed and any shot hit with a modded bolt-action will make the players in Spawncamp Shacks’ jobs much easier.
I recommend crouchjumping through the back window, then going prone as close to the wall and as far back as possible to prevent being shot from spawn protection. I will post the field of view below.
Guarding the Spiral Staircase
While the players at Spawncamp Shack delay the enemy, 2 or more additional players need to position themselves to watch the A-Line Jump-In, and most importantly, the entrance to Spiral. Spiral Stairs is the singularly most important position on the entire point, as it allows defenders easy access to the rafters.
Remember, if the defenders are in the rafters, and you are on the ground floor, capturing the objective will be nigh-impossible. Spiral can be easily covered with an LMG from this location here.
This is the view that the LMG gunner has at Spiral Corner.
Additionally, a player can wait in the rafters above the LMG to provide fire when the LMG needs to reload, or bounce surprise grenades around the corner the LMG is watching. Grenades will have little to no delay before exploding, which will clear out any enemies stood close to the wall of the church and attempting to peek the LMG. I will post a picture of the optimal spot below.

Intercepting Reinforcements From A-Line
After discovering that Spiral is being watched, many enemy teams will rotate their route from spawn and attempt to recapture the point from the A-Line Jump-in. The same setup for Spiral can be done over there, though I personally suggest against positioning the LMG on the bottom floor, and instead move that player to the rafter above the Jump-In, one on either side.
This will allow the players to have plunging fire on any vehicles or APC’s that come rolling up to the hole, as well as shelter from being shelled by tanks or grenade out of position. I will post pictures of the viewpoints from the rafters below.
This position is also extremely effective when defending. One of these players can rotate further down the rafters and will have a view over the front doors as well as both E-Line Jump-In and Spiral Jump-In. The view from this position is as follows.
Watching the Flank
If the enemy is managing to flank your position at the obvious church entrances, then there should be one player in each tower who can watch the Graveyard as well at the front doors. on the second levels of both towers, there are elevated positions just wide enough to cover these areas without being as exposed as if you were to stand in one of the open tower windows.
The broken tower overlooks the front door, while the full tower overlooks the graveyard and can even provide a direct line of sight to D-Line Bridge. I will post their viewpoints below.
This is what they look like relevant to the second floors of their respective towers.
Players in the broken tower can also rotate to provide another lane of fire on enemies pushing the Spiral, while those in the full tower can keep an eye on the E-Line holes and prevent the players above the A-Line Jump-In from being flanked.
Post-Capture and Conclusion
Taking these angles will also work for defense, as they are designed to deal with enemies making their way into the Church. Spawncamp Shack can be used to fire at enemies approaching from B-Line as well as those attempting to flank from the Police Station (O1), while the LMG watching Spiral can set up facing the front door and graveyard quickly after a successful capture.
Players above the A-Line Jump-In can spin around and cover the approach from E Line with ease as well. Make sure you learn these tactics, as they will make one of the hardest objective to capture a cakewalk against even stacked enemy teams. While having enough players to completely fill out every position I have mentioned is preferred, know what to do in order to execute a Church take even if you on a team with nothing but randoms.
If you must be the player in Spawncamp Shack, go and fight to the death so your team can advance. If you must grab an LMG and hold Spiral, then be prepared to do so. Flexibility in strategy wins battles, stack bodies where the enemy approaches from, and you will achieve victory.
