How to Connect to a Password-Protected Palworld Servers

This guide describes a work around to connect to a password protected Palworld server at the time of release for Palworld v0.1.2.0 January 19,2024. You will need the IP address and port of the server you would like to connect to.

Description of the Issue

There is a bug present in the current version of the Community Server listing for Palworld v0.1.2.0 at time of release January 19,2024 which causes issues for connecting to private password protected servers.

Currently when you try to connect to a community server it will load up a list of 200 servers. When you search for a specific server it only looks through that list of 200 servers. You can load 200 more servers by clicking the Display next 200 results button but it is effectively random if the server you are looking for will be listed. The number of servers running means it’s unlikely your server will be in the server listing using this method.

You can use an IP address and port to connect directly to a server and bypass this list but if the server is password protected you will not be prompted for a password and will not be able to connect. This is likely because this connection method is intended for non-community servers that are not shown on the community server list and those servers do not have passwords. (See the server setup documents from PocketPair for more information.)

This guide provides a workaround to specify a password for a direct IP connection. You will need to be given the IP of the sever you connecting to by the server owner. You will only need this for the first connection to the server. Once you have connected once you will be able to use the Recent Servers listing to connect to the server in the future.

It is possible this server listing may be fixed by PocketPair without an update to the game, that PocketPair will update the game so a Direct IP connect prompts for a password removing the need for it, or that this workaround will be removed at any time. If so please leave a comment and let me know. Please check if other people have recently reported the issue before reporting it yourself to avoid spam.

Workaround to connect via Direct IP and specify a Password

Follow the below steps to connect to a password protected server via a direct IP.

  1. Open Palworld and click Join a multiplayer game.
  2. Click Community Servers
  3. Replace the 127.0.0.1:8211 in the bottom box with the server’s IP and port.
    • 127.0.0.1 is the IP specifying your own computer.
    • 8211 is the default port for a Palworld server.
  4. Pick any server with a lock icon next to it’s World Name as if you were going to join it. You will not be joining this server.
    • If you cannot find a server with a lock icon click the Display next 200 results button and look for one in the next set of results.
  5. When prompted for a password enter in the password for the server from step 3 and click Ok.
  6. On the next prompt where it asks if you want to join to the server click No.
  7. Click the Connect on the bottom next to where you entered the IP address in step 3
  8. You should now be connected to the server
  9. The next time you want to join the server it will be listed under the Recent Servers section. Simply find the server in the listing and connect normally and enter the password. No workaround is needed as long as the server is still on yoru Recent Servers listing.
