How to Get Psionic Theory in Stellaris

Psionic Theory serves as the exclusive and coveted technology for achieving psi ascension. Obtaining it through the regular means of technological advancement can be arduous. However, fortunately, the game provides alternative and unconventional methods to acquire this research option. This guide offers a comprehensive list of such unconventional approaches.

How to Obtain Psionic Theory

  • Zroni Precursor: The tech option for Psionic Theory is presented twice during the Zroni precursor event. It can be found at the initial digsite and upon delving into Zroni secrets. Additionally, this path grants a research progress bonus of 20%+25%. Please note that the Ancient Relics DLC is required for this method.
  • Dimension Portal Outcome: One of the possible outcomes when encountering a Dimension Portal event is spiritualism. As spiritualists, you have the choice to close the portal. Upon completion of this task, you will be rewarded with Psionic Theory and an 80% tech progress boost.
  • Living Sea: A predefined system may contain an ocean world with the modifier ‘Living Sea.’ By colonizing this world and enacting a specific decision, you can obtain Psionic Theory directly, without the need for research. If you already possess Psionic Theory, you will receive the technology for telepathy. Furthermore, if you already have telepathy, you will be granted the precognition interface. Lastly, if you possess all three technologies, you will receive a substantial amount of research. It is important to have the Distant Stars DLC for this method.
  • Study Stone Age Pre FTL Hive Mind: Observing a stone age pre-FTL hive mind civilization carries a slight chance of triggering an observation event known as Nascent Collective. Choosing the option “Retrieve the Prime for study” has a 66% chance of success. If successful, you can opt to Send It Back and obtain Psionic Theory, along with a 5% tech progress increase. The First Contact DLC is necessary to utilize this approach.
  • Toxiods Questing Knights: By refusing the third quest, The Visitor, during encounters with the Toxiods, you will be granted the tech option for Psionic Theory without any tech progress advancement. Please note that the Toxoids DLC is required for this method.
  • Teacher of the Shroud Origin: This method is the most straightforward of all. There are no random elements involved, and it is available right from the beginning of the game.

Please note that none of the methods mentioned above are applicable if you are playing as a gestalt empire.
