Ghost Fighter’s Live Action Series Will Be Filmed at Toho Studio

Toho Studio announced that it has signed a multi-year contract with Netflix for the company to make use of its facilities starting April 1, 2021. The first production to be filmed in the Japanese studio by Netflix will be the live-action series based on the anime/manga Yu Yu Hakusho, also known as Ghost Fighter.

The live-action series adaptation of Yoshihiro Togashi’s executive producer Kazutaka Sakamoto, who is also Netflix’s director of content acquisition, and Akira Morii is producing the adaptation at Robot. The series will be launched worldwide in the service catalogue.

Yu Yu Hakusho was created by Yoshihiro Togashi and it was published in the Shonen Jump magazine by Shueisha between 1990 and 1994. The series shows the story of Yusuke Urameshi, a young man who eventually died before the hour and who receives a new opportunity when returning to life as a spiritual detective.

In addition to the anime series, Togashi’s work also had six OVAs, two animated films and several games.
