A guide on how to obtain every achievement in the game. There will be minimal spoilers, spoiling nothing about the story and as little as possible about secrets and gameplay.
If you are planning to do a single all-achievements run, do note that there is one achievement, Doing it the Hard Way, which can’t be obtained after a certain point in the story. That point is after obtaining the boom bot. Additionally, there are multiple achievements based on the difficulty you choose to play on. Only play on hard if you wish to get every achievement in one file.
General tips
Before we start, I’d like to highlight a few things that I found useful to know while getting every achievement.
- Every enemy respawns when you close and reopen the game, but not when you reload the game without closing, either through the menu or by dying.
- Loot, in-game achievements, dead enemies, and probably other things I’m forgetting, DON’T save separately to the game. In other words, if you gain loot, achievements, kill enemies, solve puzzles, or anything like that, and you die or reload for any reason before the game had a chance to save, all of that progress will be lost. You will no longer have the achievements or the loot and the enemies will respawn.
If anyone has any more tips they’d like me to add to this guide, feel free to add them in the comments.
Difficulty Achievements
There are three achievements tied to beating the game on a certain difficulty.
- Heterodyne – story/easy mode
- True Heterodyne – normal mode
- Terror of Mechanicsburg – hard mode
Note that you are not allowed to decrease the difficulty at any point for the normal and hard achievements. If you start the game on hard, you will only get Terror of Mechanicsburg if you don’t change the difficulty a single time until reaching the end. Additionally, when beating the game at a certain difficulty, you also get the achievements for beating the game on difficulties below the one you played at. So beating the game on normal mode gets you both True Heterodyne and Heterodyne, and beating the game on hard mode gets you all three.
Story Achievements
Achievements which are tied to story progression, and as a result anyone who beats the game will obtain.
- A Quest For A Glorious Cup Of Coffee
- Spark Moment
- The Blood is the Key
- Hey! Listen!
- Giver of Life
- Schools Out!
- The Gang Is Assembled
- Pinkie’s Last Flight
If you are missing any of these achievements after beating the game, it’s a glitch, and you might need to start over from a new file.
General Combat Achievements
Achievements which require defeating a certain amount of specific enemies. Many of these are likely to be obtained just playing through the game normally, but in case you’ve reached the end and are missing any of these, tips on how to get them are in the spoilers.
- Baw-kah-BOOM! – Destroy 25 Chicken Clanks. Go to The Arena and complete the Baw-Kah-BOOM! challenge a few times.
- Not on-the-fence – Destroy 15 Fencing Clanks. Go to The Arena and complete the Fencing Clank Troupe challenge.
- Martial Demotions! – Destroy 5 Fencing Clank Captains. Go to The Arena and complete the Captain’s Cartel challenge a couple times. Alternatively, since that challenge only has 1 captain so it can be a little slow, you can go to the Herbatorium Entrance (very near the end of the game) and going to the Herbatorium Hallway, killing every captain in both rooms.
- In need of support! – Destroy a Shield Clank that is currently shielding 3 or more enemies. Go to The Arena and complete the Battery of Shields challenge.
- EEEK! – Destroy 5 Nyar Spiders. Nyar Spiders are killed by drilling into soft ground as the dingbot and coming out underneath the spider. There is, to my knowledge, only one place in the game with two Nyar spiders together, near Sgt. Clumsy. If you don’t mind spoilers for that particular collectible, open the next spoiler. Otherwise, there are Nyar spiders in the dingbot sections of The Foundry, which is to the left of The Arena. in the TGMC Well Shrine room, in a slightly hidden area behind a short wall in the flying area.
Loot (Money) Achievements
Three achievements require loot, the resources you use to upgrade your tools and dispense coffee (I too put 20 pieces of scrap metal into my coffee machine every morning in order to get my cup of joe). There are three types of loot- white (scrap), green (mechanical parts) and blue (wild inventions), each type is more rare than the last. You will need a lot of all three types in order to upgrade everything and get all of the achievements below.
- Scrap Collector – Find a total of 777 resources.
- Glorious Coffee – Upgraded the Coffee Machine to its highest tier. (when interacting with the coffee machine only in The Hub, you can upgrade it to increase the health per use and amount of uses your coffee provides. You cannot upgrade it outside of the hub.)
- Modular Marvel – Build all modules for your weapons and tools to their highest tier. (This requires getting every blueprint- see the Collectible Achievements section for more.)
If you are struggling to afford everything, there are four ways to get more loot:
- Completing the arena challenges. This will only award loot on the first completion of each challenge, and enemies in the arena don’t drop loot.
- Opening secret loot chests scattered around the world. These include both the chests you open as Agatha and those you open as dingbot. Make sure to look around in every nook and cranny for them!
- Lockpicking dingbot locks without making a single mistake. This rewards you with bonus loot.
- Destroying enemies and boxes. This is the only renewable source of loot, as every other way to get any locks you from getting more loot from its source after you get it once. However, because enemies and boxes are capable of respawning, this is a way to get infinite loot, even if it is fairly slow.
Collectible Achievements
These achievements are based on finding optional secrets throughout the world.
This list is entirely reliant on this collectibles guide, so huge thanks to them! Just use their guide if you’re struggling with any of these achievements:
- Art Connoisseur – Find all the portraits.
- Dingbot Supreme – Find all the dingbot sergeants.
- Self Improvement – Find all Heterodyne Artifacts.
- Master of the Arena – Defeat all the challenges with a Mastery Badge in the Arena. (I’m putting this here because this is also for an artifact and so you should see these tips if you’re going for it, even if the achievement doesn’t really fit in this category. This requires beating every challenge both under the time limit and without taking damage. Note that you don’t need to do both at the same time- you can do the no-damage run and low time run separately and it will still count for the mastery badge.)
- Loremaster – Find all Lore Segments.
However, there are some things the guide does not mention:
- Recipes for Disaster – Find every tool upgrade blueprint. guide TBA
- Chronomoira – Find Chronomoira the Clank. In The Foundry, which is to the left of The Arena, there are a bunch of dingbot sections scattered throughout. Completing all of them opens a door (next to which there is a sign that says “good luck opening this door. we’ve tried for years.” Chronomoira is past the door.)
- Queen of the Castle – 100% completion. (get every collectible and upgrade every tool to the max. Unsure if Chronomoira’s shop is included in this.)
Miscellaneous Achievements
These Achievements don’t fit neatly into any category. Many of these are hard to get unless you’re specifically looking to get every achievement.
- Doing it the Hard Way – Find the “Mirror Shard” Artifact before building the Boom Clank on the Workbench. You can check this guide for your reference.
- Three Stones, one Bird – Launch a Chicken Clank by hitting it with the Wrench, and the explosion destroys 3 or more enemies. I recommend doing this achievement and the Chain Reaction achievement at the same time. Simply go to the Baw-Kah-BOOM! Challenge in The Arena and use the many chicken clanks in round 3 to blow each other up.
- Take the Shot! – Destroy 4 or more enemies with one Deathray blast. Simply go into any challenge in The Arena with a lot of enemies, such as Fencing Clank Troupe, and use a deathray blast during the third round. Don’t worry if you mess up, your spark meter recharges every time you start a challenge.
- They see me Rollin’ – Destroy an enemy with a moving Rollerclank. I recommend using the Corridor of Portraits room, which is to the right of The Grand Gallery.
- Chain Reaction – Hit a Chicken Clank with the Wrench that results in a chain explosion of 3 or more Chicken Clanks. I recommend doing this achievement and the Three Stones, One Bird achievement at the same time. Simply go to the Baw-Kah-BOOM! Challenge in The Arena and use the many chicken clanks in round 3 to blow each other up.
- A Perfect Moment In Time – Command the Castle to destroy 3 or more enemies with a single trap. Go to the Corridor of Portraits room, which is to the right of The Grand Gallery, and bait as many fencing clanks to chase you around so you can line up a trap to crush as many as possible. I recommend destroying the Sting-rays before baiting the fencing clanks as those are much harder to bait.
