Play Nioh 2 on Windows 7

One of the main reason why Nioh 2 is not compatible with Windows 7 is it requires DirectX 12 support. But there’s a hole that we can exploit to make it work.

The first thing you have to do is to install all essentials and optional Windows 7 updates. If you don’t know how to get the update, simply hit the Windows key on your keyboard and type “Windows Update” and install all the updates.

Next is getting the latest version of DirectX 11 for Windows 7. You can get the newest version by clicking this link. Install the program and restart your computer.

Then we install Nioh 2 – The Complete Edition on your PC via Steam. After the successful installation, you have to run Nioh 2 as an administrator. Access the executable file of Nioh 2 by going to its installation folder. To make it simple, do the following steps:

  1. Steam > Nioh 2 > Properties > Browse Local Files
  2. Search for Nioh 2.exe > Properties > Compatibility > Check Run as Administrator

Now, here comes the tricky part. To trick Nioh 2 into running its program on DirectX 11, we have to make some few changes. Don’t worry as it will not harm your computer in a long run. You have to do the following steps:

  1. Go to C:\Windows\System32
  2. Search for the file name xinput1_3.dll and make a backup
  3. Once the backup has been created, rename the file into xinput1_4.dll

Right after these changes, you can now open and play Nioh 2 – The Complete Edition on your Windows 7 OS. Credits to Pragg on Steam for this fix.
