How to Steal an Outpost in Barotrauma

So you want to become a wannabe outpost-robber but don’t know how to do so? Don’t worry, i’ll give you some professional and straight to the point, simple advice.

Outpost Changes

Winter Patch 2023

– Outpost security is now better at catching thieves: they can do random inspections to check for stolen items (more frequently if your reputation is low or if they’ve caught someone in your crew stealing), and notice if you’re visibly carrying or wearing any stolen items.

– Added bilge pumps and duct blocks throughout outposts. Otherwise the outposts can never drain if the player causes a flood.

This means that: the lower your reputation is with a faction, the more security checks will happen.

Patch 1.0.13.1

– Attacking outpost NPCs can’t decrease your reputation by more than 20 points per round. Works as a safeguard against enormous reputation losses e.g. in the case of a trigger-happy griefer or a nuclear mishap.

– Destroying outpost walls can’t decrease your reputation by more than 10 points per round.

– Outpost NPCs don’t allow players to grab them for longer than 10 seconds to prevent being able to drag them around the outpost.

This means that: Trolls will be limited to a certain extend of their actions.

Outpost NPCs cant be grabbed anymore to be lured to flood and drown them inside the docking room. This was a efficient and easy way of killing Outpost NPCs.

Diving Suits Stealing

There will be an amount of 2 Diving suits for each outpost, except for colony (i think). Steal them first before flooding the station.

Check where the guards are before you commence stealing the suits to avoid being grabbed. If a guard does catch you, immediately run to a long ladder and climb up a bit, after the guard “grabbed you” on the ladder, run back to the submarine and drop your suit
You can tell when the guard interacts with you, if the guard starts talking about security checks.

Reason: This is because Players/NPC’s cannot interact while climbing on a ladder (grabbing or healing). literally.

Flooding

Silly developers, making our jobs easier after the 2023 Winter patch

Look for these Pumps, anyone should be able to interact with them, if the host hasn’t made any strict lobby settings

(Located in Medical, Engineering, etc.)

Don’t forget about these 2 Pumps near the Docking Hatch

Change following settings:
Signal Check Component – Output: 100
Water Detector – False Output: 1

Reason: This is due to the Water Detector being in a dry room and starts to activate the Signal Check, but since output is also set to 1, the Water Detector starts to activate the Signal Check again, telling that its in a wet room.

  • if you wish to drain water: -100
  • if you wish to pump it again: 100

Part 2

If you want to flood the outpost using the plasma cutter, i recommend to flood the station in this specific example.

Reason: This way if every room has been flooded, the NPC’s will flee upwards the outpost and die from the pressure, slowly falling back to the floor of the outpost and wont fall down into the bottom of the ocean.

Stunning & Handcuffing

If you have to deal with a hostile outpost, we wont be flooding it now, but hey Double Trouble they say/

Grab 2 of each and combine them, equip 2 Stun Batons, slap anyone you see 2 tmes and handcuff them. Outpost Guards carry their own handcuffs which saves you a lot of time.

2 Hits with loaded with Fulgurium battery cell should be sufficient enough, as far as i know. After you stunned them, drag them into the small room so they wont run around inside the outpost. The talent, Fireman’s Carry, is extremely beneficial in this case
(medic only, dragging characters with no speed penalty).

But im facing a colony!

Exit the Docking space and wait for the guards to appear. as of right now there is a delay before the guards attack you. use this moment to throw a stun grenade and make sure it doesn’t hit you.

Stun Grenades receive 10% Bonus Stun Radius for each increased crafting quality. i’ll do the math for you 7.5 m (normal) – 8.25 m – 9 m – 9.75 m
