This guide covers every ultimate character build for each of the playable characters in Gauntlet. These ‘ultimate’ character builds will make the character the strongest that they can be — to the best of their abilities. These builds will serve you well in most situations with that character. Other upgrades are a distraction and will only waste away any gold that you have grinded for.
When you start the game, I suggest that you prioritize purchasing these upgrades first since these represent the strongest class of your character.
Warrior
The warrior is a great character choice for the player that wants to play offense and deal great damage.
Weapon
Giant’s Bane: This is the strongest ax with the warrior’s most destructive abilities — the destructo-spin. Generally, the spin is great for both clearing mobs as well as blitzing a strong attack on a strong foe.
Secondary options: The turbo-slam would be the next best ability. The downside to it, compared to destructo-spin, is that it doesn’t do as much damage and it requires great accuracy to get right.
Talisman
The Prize: This is the warrior’s strongest magic ability. It allows the warrior to be a lot more destructive. This ability is especially good for wiping out bosses and generators. Combine this ability with the destructo-spin to clear the arena quickly especially when you or your party is getting overwhelmed.
Relics
Ring of Mirrors: You will see this relic appear throughout because it truly is the best choice overall. The illusion fighters will help you out tremendously. Other relics are just not as useful unless you’re trying to achieve something very specific like grinding for gold (Golden feather relic)
(Remember to upgrade it to Rank III)
Head, Body, Capes
None of these choices have any bearing on your character’s strength and abilities. They are all for pure vanity.
Valkyrie
The Valkyrie is a great character choice for the player that likes to play a good balance of defense and offense. The Valkyrie’s shield block will reflect many enemies attacks back at them.
Weapon
Final Justice: The ‘extreme prejudice’ ability is the best overall because it will help you in both clearing a crowd as well as dealing a strong blow to a tough foe.
Runners-up: The intercept ability can also be good at offensively leaping away from a sticky situation, but, it’s not as strong as extreme prejudice. Shield throw is also not too bad, but doesn’t clear a crowd like extreme prejudice. Smite is probably the worst ability since it only strikes a single enemy at once.
Talisman
Mark of the Commander: The ‘Summon Valkyries’ ability comes out on top for dealing with tough foes like bosses. Yes, combine this with the ring of mirrors — you will have a small invulnerable army fighting with you for a moment. You can only call the valkyries with potions so make sure you use it where it counts.
Relics
Ring of Mirrors: Yup, this one again. Combine this with ‘Mark of the Commander’ talisman so that you will always have a small army fighting your battles with you when you need it most. This ability regenerates endlessly. (Remember to upgrade it to Rank III)
Head, Body, Capes
None of these choices have any bearing on your character’s strength and abilities. They are all for pure vanity.
Wizard
The Wizard is a great character choice for the player that likes to support the team and keep a distance from the fray. He has the smallest amount of health and must keep his distance from enemies and resort to hit and run tactics.
Weapon
The Hollow Chapters: Void school will grant you the best crowd clearing abilities that the wizard has. A very effective combo is using the vacuum to suck a massive mob of enemies into a crowded area and then launching a fire bomb straight into the heart of that mob.
The Wizard has a motley of spells for better or worse. It is definitely worth purchasing the other weapons (spells) of the wizard for certain situations. Giving up the water/ice and fire abilities is a big drawback too.
Endritch’s Mystic Sphere is a close runner-up since its moves can help the wizard move around quickly and away from trouble well the wizard can use plenty of supporting attacks to support the more offensive players on the team in their attacks.
Talisman
Merlin’s Bookmark: The arcane blast is the best option because it is a strong attack and especially useful when the wizard is in serious trouble or dealing a strong blow to a boss.
The runner-up would be the Mercury Vial since the barrier can help protect teammates and offer some temporary and strategic crowd control, but, this is mostly a defensive strategy and the best defense is offense.
Relics
Ring of Mirrors: Yup, this one again. This is seriously useful in giving the wizard some relief with supporters that will endlessly toss fire bombs at the attackers. They are great at distracting the enemies from the wizard too. (Remember to upgrade it to Rank III)
Head, Body, Capes
None of these choices have any bearing on your character’s strength and abilities. They are all for pure vanity.
Elf
The Elf is a great character choice for the player that likes to run and gun. He is a hit-and-run fighter because he has low health and not much ability to fight hand-to-hand with a large mob.
Weapon
The Messenger: The mortar shot is the elf’s strongest offensive attack. Aim for using this against crowds, generators, and bosses. Avoid the vault shot since it is not as powerful.
Talisman
Questor’s First Arrowhead: The ultimate arrow is the elf’s strongest magic attack. Save your potions for making these powerful shots against your strongest enemies. The other magic abilities are just not as valuable (offensive) as this.
Relics
Ring of Mirrors: Yet again, this relic proves useful again in calling some strong allies to help you in the fight. (Don’t forget to upgrade it to rank 3 for max benefits.)
Head, Body, Capes
None of these choices have any bearing on your character’s strength and abilities. They are all for pure vanity.
Necromancer
The Necromancer is a great character choice for the player that wants to overwhelm the enemy with army of the dead. The necromancer must keep a safe distance from the fray though. This character is only available via DLC though.
Weapon
Eternal Night: The summon shades ability appears to do the most effective damage at a good rate. The evil spirits do a lot of damage and all they need to do is touch an enemy. The other summonable spirits just don’t do enough to lay waste to the crowds. Attack enemies and strengthen your evil spirits and then release them. Rinse and repeat. It’s a good strategy for this character.
Talisman
Dream Catcher: The dark remnant ability is the strongest magical attack from the Necromancer. It costs a potion so use it when it counts but it will deal the most damage to a massive crowd.
Runner-up, the resurrection ability is probably really useful when playing with a team, but, players should be playing with a strong offensive build and not waste time dying so that they must be revived…
Relics
Ring of Mirrors: Is it even a surprise — yes summoning 3 allies to fight for you is the best relic to get. (Do not forget to upgrade it to rank 3 to maximize the benefits).
Head, Body, Capes
None of these choices have any bearing on your character’s strength and abilities. They are all for pure vanity.
Contributions
If you also agree with these ultimate builds or tweaking them, contributors are welcome to contribute or suggest their ideas. I wanted to share this guide with the community so they can have a better time playing this frustrating game. The goal is to help other players avoid wasting precious gold on worthless upgrades.
Anyone that would like to contribute or suggest ideas / strategies please do so. It is welcome. The goal of this guide is to show players the most effective character builds for the game. Especially new players.
Some information that I think would make this guide better:

- Damage rates comparisons
- Missing information
