According to the leaked One Piece 972 spoilers on رديت, Oden Kozuki is about to reach the time agreed to let him and the others freed, Orochi turns his back again and changed the way of executing Oden. Instead of boiling, Oden told that they will be shot dead in the capital.

Due to the sudden change of mind and the pain that Oden endured, he throws the wood carrying his subordinates to help them survive and escape.
